We use the most efficient recycling technology
To fully recover valuable raw materials, we mainly use the following methods:
To recycle mercury-free AlMn and ZnC batteries, we make use of three highly effective methods. Both the blast furnace method and the electric arc furnace method can be used to extract manganiferous pig iron and zinc concentrate. The third method is a controlled process in which the batteries are shredded and the steel content is then separated from the manganese dioxide, which contains zinc. The steel is sold, while zinc oxide is recovered from the manganese dioxide in rotary kilns.
The cadmium from NiCd batteries is distilled in a vacuum or in an inert atmosphere. It is then used in the manufacture of new NiCd batteries, while the remaining steel/nickel alloy is sold on for steelmaking.
Due to the risk of hydrogen being released, NiMH batteries are shredded in a controlled atmosphere and the plastic content removed. Once the plastic housing has been removed, what is left is a product with a high nickel content, which is used as an important alloying component in steel production.
